Purpose:
MountainView Lady Putters (MVLP) was founded by Lou Ann Garvin in February of 1998. It is a fun-loving group interested in camaraderie. Whether your goal is to make new friends, to have fun, or to improve your game, Putters is a pleasant social group. For those interested in competition, weekly, monthly, and annual prizes are given using a handicap system.
Orientation:
Time and Place:
In the summer, announcements begin at 7:30 a.m. for the first group and 9:00 a.m. for the second group. In the winter, announcements begin at 8:45 a.m. for the first group and 10:15 a.m. for the second group. Play will begin immediately following the announcements. There is no putting in the fall while the golf course is closed for overseeding. We meet Monday mornings on the Mesquite Grill Patio and putt on the green nearest the Pro Shop. Whenever possible, carpool with a friend, as parking space is limited.
Play Procedure:
Bring a putter with your name on it and a ball. Some type of name tag must be worn. If you forget your name tag, please use one of the available paper name tags.
A numbered chip is drawn from the Starter, which will designate your starting hole. Pick up a scorecard and clipboard, unless someone else in your group has already done so. Please walk around the green to reach your starting hole, not across the green. Be sure to use both your first and last names on the scorecard. Two-somes are not allowed, so you may have to split up and join another group. Place the ball about 6" on either side of the "Tee Marker." If you are unable to hole the ball in three attempts, pick it up and take a score of four.
The Move-Ahead System is used. If the hole ahead of you is open, the person who is first on that hole may proceed. Always be ready to hit when it is your turn. When you are hitting down a hill, do not wait for your ball to come to rest before you start toward it. This will speed up play and keep things moving smoothly.
Talk quietly. Be polite, friendly and respectful of other Putters when they are putting.
Dots are placed on the scorecard to indicate who will be first on each hole, in rotation. Score keeping is shared by all players. The person who hits first will then keep score for the rest of that hole. If a ball rolls into the wrong hole, the putter may take it out, place it near that hole and continue putting without penalty. If a player discovers she has hit toward the wrong hole, she must continue putting from where she is toward the correct hole. Do not start over and do not take a penalty.
After the second group has completed Putting 18 holes, they will be responsible for pulling the numbered Tee Marker on their finishing hole, and returning it to the Set-Up Box on the patio. If someone arrives after play has begun, she may join a group, but she may not make up any missed holes. She will have an incomplete score, which will not be posted.
Dress Code:
To maintain a Country Club atmosphere, all Putters and guests must comply with the Pro Shop dress code. This code does not allow blue jeans, denim apparel, tights, leggings, sweat pants, short-shorts, or tank tops. Tops must have either a collar or sleeves, or both. Non-compliance will result in a reprimand. Wear golf shoes or soft-soled flat shoes. No metal spikes or heels. Hats, water bottles and sunscreen are recommended.
Membership:
Membership is open to ladies who are residents of SaddleBrooke. Your annual dues ($67) must be paid by January 31. Make your check payable to "MountainView Lady Putters" or "MVLP". Your Annual Registration Form must accompany your check and give both to the Treasurer. Checks only please, no cash is accepted.
Handicap Calculation:
Your handicap will be calculated in the following manner: Par for putting is 36. If a person's average score for 4 weeks is 42, the difference between 36 and 42 would be 6. Six would be that person's "handicap." This means 6 strokes would be subtracted from that person's gross score to arrive at her net score, until the following month, when the handicap may change. The maximum handicap is 15.
Putters' handicaps will be updated and posted on the MVLP Bulletin Board every month.
Scoring Procedures:
No scores will be posted unless all 18 holes are completed.
Monthly Scoring:
Monthly scores will only qualify if the Putter has played three or more times out of the month. The scores will be added together, and then divided by the number of games played (3, 4, or 5).
Annual Scoring:
Five out of the twelve months must have qualifying scores to be eligible for the annual awards.
Tiger of the Year (lowest net for the year)
Roadrunner of the Year (lowest gross for the year)
The averages from each of the qualifying months will be added together and divided by the number of qualifying periods (from 5 to 12) to determine the annual average.
Holes-in-One Scoring:
All holes-in-one will be counted for the month, whether or not the Putter has played three times. The total of all holes-in-one will count toward the annual Most Holes-In-One trophy.
Guests:
Each time a member brings a guest, she will pay a $1 guest fee, will be responsible to see that her guest complies with the dress code, and will write "guest" by her name on the scorecard. There will be no guests under the age of 16.
Please tell the Starter that you have a guest so she can arrange for you to play together. Guests are not eligible to win prizes.
Resident guests (guests who are residents of our community) may be invited only twice before becoming a member, and may be invited to luncheons and/or special events. Out-of-town guests over the age of 16 may be invited to putt on Monday mornings and attend luncheons. Guests may be invited to participate in partners events if space is available.
Communication:
By-Laws, the Standing Rules, and an Annual Calendar of Events will be available to each member. Information about luncheons, upcoming events, etc. is announced each week and at the monthly meetings. Pertinent information is posted on the Putters' Bulletin Board in the Golf Room (the old fitness office) and the MVLP Website: www.mvlputters.com. The user name for the Member Directory is 'membership' and the password is 'monday' (Both lower case). Putter email address is mvlputters @msn.com.
Luncheon Meetings:
Every second Monday of the month, a Luncheon Meeting is held in the Palo Verde Room at the MountainView Country Club. The cost may vary depending on the menu. The deadline for getting luncheon checks to the Treasurer is the Monday preceding the luncheon. Make checks (no cash) payable to "MountainView Ladies Putters." If you forget to bring your check, you may deposit it in the Yellow Box in the golf room (the old fitness office), Monday, by 12:00 noon, which is the final deadline. No Exceptions. If there is a cancellation, there is no refund, but someone may fill that spot and reimburse the person she replaces. If you plan to be out of town, deposit your check in the Yellow Box in advance. Attendance is very important. This is when reports are given, announcements are made, new members are introduced, ideas are exchanged, voting takes place, and monthly traveling trophies are awarded.
Awards:
Weekly prizes are presented in the form of Gift Certificates to the MV or Preserve Pro Shop and the Preserve Grill, Mesquite Grill, Palo Verde Dining Room. These certificates are awarded as Door Prizes, and to winners of the Money Hole and 4 Holes-In-One or more.
The "Tiger-of-the-Month" Low Net trophy is presented to the putter with the lowest net average for the prior month. The "Roadrunner-of-the-Month" Low Gross trophy is presented to the putter who had the lowest gross score. The "Hole-in-Wonder" trophy is presented to the putter who had the most holes-in-one. Recipients of the monthly traveling trophies are responsible for ensuring that they are brought back to the next lunch meeting.
Annual "Tiger-of-the-Year" Low Net, "Roadrunner-of-the-Year" Low Gross, and Most Holes-in-Wonder awards are presented at the February lunch meeting. Five of the twelve months must have qualifying scores to be eligible for the Annual Awards. Their names will be added to the engraved plaque which is displayed in the trophy case outside the Pro Shop. The winners will also receive a small keepsake gift.
Annual Registration Meeting:
Each year, in January, an Annual Registration Meeting is held to prepare for the new year. In order to have your name appear on the Membership Roster for the following year, you must register and pay dues. You will learn about the various committees, and sign-up to serve on one or more of them. All members are required to participate on a committee or job assignment at some time during the year, so our activities can continue to be successful.
